Conference to provide digital entrepreneurs with expert tips

Tuesday 15 November 2016

Budding digital entrepreneurs can share ideas and get insider tips from experts as the University of Salford hosts a conference aimed at driving innovation.

Creative Entrepreneur 2016 will take place at MediaCityUK on November 23 and this year it features panels and experts from health and wellbeing, sport and engineering and the environment as well as the creative digital tech sector.

Now in its third year, and still completely free, Creative Entrepreneur has already helped some businesses grow and create others from scratch. It is a chance for SME’s and start-ups to identify future talent and discuss emerging trends and the latest technology. More than 40 speakers from around the globe will attend this year.

Alex Fenton, lecturer in Digital Business at the University of Salford, and event producer, said: “This year we are focussing on the power of collaboration. At the University of Salford we understand that making those connections in real life between students and industry is vital to give our students the best chance of success in their chosen career and it can give business an edge to have new recruits with latest knowledge to help their business grow. Everyone wins when good collaboration happens.”

“Last year we had around 450 people through the doors, so we’re hoping to be even bigger this year. It’s a great opportunity for all to meet external companies and staff and students from other Universities.”

The event will feature masterclasses panel sessions and workshops, with talks from some key industry experts. And as part of the day there will be a Dragon’s Den style pitching competition where anyone with a great idea can pitch to a panel of business angels’. The winning team will receive cash to help them start their business and the chance to get ongoing mentoring as they develop their ideas.

Among the speakers will be Professor Vikas Shah, an award winning entrepreneur and strategist, who will discuss what it takes to drive success. Creative design company Marshmallow Laser Feast, who create laser shows and virtual reality experiences, will be there discussing creativity and the future of the technology, as well as looking for new talent.  And Professor Simon Chadwick will be hosting a panel discussion on the challenges facing the world of sport business.

Alex Fenton said: “This is a really key event for our students but also the local business community. I’m always amazed by the wealth of talent that is on show at Creative Entrepreneur and this year promises to be no different.”

Creative Entrepreneur is on at MediaCityUk on Wednesday, November 23. It is an all-day event open to anyone who wants to attend. Places can be booked through the Eventbrite website.
