Friday 29 January 2016

Salford Business School has increased the strength of its sports department with two high profile new signings.

Professors Simon Chadwick and Ian McHale have joined the team and have made an instant impact in the media by getting involved in key debates affecting the sporting world.

Professor Chadwick has appeared on Sky Sports News, Radio Five Live, BBC World News and BBC World Service, as well as dozens of regional radio stations, discussing Adidas ending its sponsorship arrangements with the IAAF, possible corruption and cheating in tennis and the growing power of China in world sport. He is a regular columnist in the Conversation and has written two columns for the City Am business newspaper.

And Professor McHale, who along with colleague Tarrak Kharrat, has developed SAM -the Sports Analytics Machine- was on North West Tonight and ITV Granada reports explaining how his machine can be used to predict football results. Every week SAM is used on the BBC website as part of their build up to the weekend action, giving predictions on how the action will unfold.

As well as Ian and Simon, Chris Brady appeared on BBC Five Live talking about the Adidas case in athletics. There is also work plenty of research work going on behind the scenes which will bear fruit in the coming years.
