University hosts Degree show for Arts and Media students

Wednesday 8 June 2016

The University of Salford is celebrating the work produced by its final year Art and Design students with a Degree show exhibition.

This comes as part of the School of Arts and Media’s ongoing festival, Create Salford 2016, which showcases the best creative work from the University of Salford’s School of Arts and Media students.

The Degree show, which will be held at the University’s Allerton Studios from Friday, 10th June to Friday, 17th June (excluding Sunday 12th June), will include work from students studying; Visual Arts, Graphic Design, Fashion Image Making and Styling, Interior Design and Photography. The preview night is from 5.30 - 9.30pm on Thursday, 9th June.

Students featuring in the Degree Show include Tia Robinson, whose creativity has recently landed her a place on the Pilot Internship Scheme at Selfridges, and Marah Elmesrati, whose work has been inspired by her love of being alive, having survived war and conflict previously. Tia and Marah are both studying a BA (Hons) degree in Fashion Image Making and Styling.

The show is also set to feature selected works by MA Art and Design students and an exhibition of work by alumni who took part in the University Advancement Arts and Media Graduate Scholarship, run in partnership with Islington Mill, Artwork Atelier and Castfield Gallery.

Sam Ingleson, Create Festival Director, said: “I always look forward to the Degree show, especially the preview evening which gives us an opportunity to celebrate the talents of our students and see many friendly faces of past students and industry partners who come down to see the work.

“It is the last year it will be held at Allerton Studios before we move to New Adelphi, our brand new building so we are saying goodbye to the building but we are also looking forward to the future.”

The Create Festival, now in its fifth year, aims to inspire and encourage creative minds through a series of events, celebrating the achievements of our talented final year students. It has recently expanded its duration to a two month period (May – June).
