Music student features on Metropolis Studios compilation album

Tuesday 11 April 2017

A MUSIC student at the University of Salford who wrote a song in two weeks is celebrating after being featured on a compilation album produced by Metropolis Studios.

Pop mega-stars including Adele, Michael Jackson and Sir Elton John have all recorded music at the world famous Metropolis Studios.

Last year, the recording studios set about compiling an album called ‘Lost Songs’, which features songs from relatively unknown musicians.

First year student Zak Taylor Fray decided to submit his song demo to be included in Volume Two of the Lost Songs album which was released this year, after he saw how successful Volume One had been.

Zak 24, said:  “I found this competition when simply searching the internet for songwriting competitions one day, and was lucky that there was still time to enter. It amazes me that people who have worked with huge pop stars thought my song was good and worth something."

Zak’s song on the album is titled ‘Be Mine’, and it is a love song based on his personal experiences. His song is one of just sixteen songs on the album, written by artists from around the world.

He continued: "I sent Metropolis a demo of my song and they re-recorded it adding a new singer and a few changes to the instrumentation but they did an excellent job and maintained the original feel of the song completely".

Zak, from Sheffield, studies Music: Popular Music and Recording, a highly reputable course within the School of Arts and Media at the University of Salford. During his degree, he has been able to make use of the new world-class recording facilities that are offered at the New Adelphi building.

Zak is now hoping to use his experiences to set up a vocal harmony group, based at the University of Salford.
