TV’s Sara Pascoe leads Salford £5 comedy night

Thursday 19 October 2017

TV sensation Sara Pascoe is among the stars performing in a night of comedy at the University of Salford.

Sara, who recently appeared in BBC satire W1A and who is a regular contributor to panel shows such as Mock The Week and Eight Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, is performing at the Suspiciously Cheap Comedy Show at the University’s New Adelphi Theatre on Monday October 23.

The show, returning to the University after a successful event earlier in the year, also features Scottish writer Richard Gadd – winner of last year’s Edinburgh Comedy Award – along with up and coming stand-ups Bisha K Ali and Top Joe, who won Liverpool Echo Comedian Of The Year 2016.

The night, curated by critically acclaimed sketch groups Gein’s Family Giftshop and Goose, is so called because it brings together the UK’s best comedy line-ups for just £5.

Gein’s Family Giftshop – themselves described as ‘something genuinely new’ by The Sunday Times – are also graduates of the University’s theatre performance degree programme and the group’s Kiri Pritchard Mclean runs workshops teaching skills to the programme’s stand-up students.

She said: “We're really excited about bringing Suspiciously Cheap back to Salford. The last show was incredible with a cracking line up and a lovely savvy audience. Anyway, word has spread about what a great gig it is so we're able to get some of our very favourite acts to do the night.

“We've got Sara Pascoe - who I think we can all agree is one of the best comedians the UK has. She's just finished a sold out run at the Edinburgh fringe and has managed to squeeze this date in for us. We've also got Richard Gadd, 2016's Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner. He's genuinely a genre defining comedian, he's so brilliant.

“We've also got Bisha K. Ali who is as hilarious as she is important and Top Joe, I wish I could describe what he does… there's a high vis involved, that's probably all you need to know.

“Goose are back with their one man sweaty sketch show, Gein's Family Giftshop will be peddling their usual multi award winning depraved filth and I'll be hosting - what a night. AND IT'S A FIVER! I guess you know why we called it Suspiciously Cheap now.”

The New Adelphi Arts Centre is the new home of the University’s School of Arts and Media, and as well as providing students with cutting edge facilities is opening its doors to the public as an exciting new venue where members of the public can enjoy an exciting programme of performances.
