Art graduate draws attention to rising levels of trash

A UNIVERSITY of Salford art graduate is helping draw attention to the problem of rising levels of waste on our streets.
Claudia Alonso, who graduated from the University’s visual arts programme last year, has contributed pieces to the Manchester Museum’s Rubbish Night At The Museum exhibition opening on Thursday April 19.
The exhibition, which will occupy the top floor of the museum from 6-9pm, features a series of photographs, art works and comments from residents designed to challenge and inspire organisations, businesses and residents across Greater Manchester to work together to deal with the problem of rubbish.
Claudia, aged 29, collaborated in a group exhibition, producing a series of colourful large photographic prints, transforming the view of the streets and the issue of fly-tipping.
She said: “As an artist and resident I was annoyed with the quantity of fly tipping and rubbish in my neighbourhood and other areas.
The event, aimed at residents, policy makers, as well as international and UK students, and everyone interested in reducing waste and rubbish across Greater Manchester, has been organised by the Upping It community group and the Manchester Sustainable Consumption Institution in collaboration with the Manchester Museum.
The exhibition opens for a special night from 6-9pm before remaining in place from Friday until Sunday.
