Biosciences fully accredited by profession

Wednesday 24 January 2018

BIOSCIENCES at the University of Salford offer ‘excellence as standard’, according to the Royal Society of Biology (RSB).

Our suite of 14 undergraduate degrees – including Biology, Zoology and Biochemistry – have all been officially accredited by the Society.

Accreditation means that these courses not only offer a high standard of teaching, curriculum provision and practical skill set development, but also enhance graduate employability skills.

It is also recognition that our courses equip graduates with the skills needed to thrive in a global market.

Several courses including Biology and Zoology earned 100% overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey and all are taught by internationally-leading researchers, and offer work/industrial placement opportunities.

Field trips

Our field trips are extensive, including a unique Brazil trip to a research centre in the Amazon and the new £3million Bodmer ‘Megalab’ is available to students on all biosciences courses.

Biology work placement students have been based at APEM Ltd, Manchester Royal Infirmary and the lung physiology units at Aintree and Wythenshawe Hospitals and others have gone to do overseas placements in environmental areas.

Recent biochemistry students have completed placement years at AstraZeneca, Kidscan and the Cancer Research UK Manchester institute. Biochemistry also offers a 4 year Royal Society of Biology accredited option, with research-led placement year.

There are also opportunities for Zoology and Wildlife and Practical Conservation students to study a placement year with work experience, including overseas.

Laura Bennett, BSc Zoology, said: “The best thing about my time at Salford was the staff. The lecturers are highly knowledgeable in their fields, are easy to get on with but also professional. I also think the contacts I made whilst studying at Salford have come in handy since graduating.”
