Duke of York launches Bahrain partnership

HRH Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, officially launched a partnership between the British University of Bahrain and The University of Salford at an event yesterday
The arrangement will see the new British University Bahrain (BUB) open its doors to students later this year.
BUB will deliver a range of undergraduate degree programmes on a brand new campus, offering courses in Engineering, the Built Environment, Computer Science and Business.
HRH Prince Andrew hailed the establishment of the BUB as the latest example of an enduring bilateral partnership with Bahrain that spans over 200 years. He noted that the new university represents a positive indication of the scale of cooperation between the two countries across a range of sectors and fields. And he said that BUB will make a valuable contribution to Bahrain’s well-established higher education sector, adding new programmes and projects that will help stimulate learning across a number of academic disciplines.
The Vice Chancellor of Salford University, Professor Helen Marshall, said in a speech at the launch, in Bahrain, said: “It is exciting to be here today as we launch the British University of Bahrain, a collaborative investment in building a highly skilled and capable workforce in Bahrain that will drive economic growth and prosperity.
“It is a personal moment of pride, as someone who has had a long-term commitment to providing high-quality educational partnerships in this region, to be stood here today at the launch of this progressive, industry-focused institution – that I am sure will have success after success in the years to come.
“This is part of the aspiration to make Bahrain a regional hub for high quality higher education provision that produces the highly skilled, driven and engaged graduates that the global economy needs to thrive.
“The University of Salford is truly an international University, but we have always stuck to our founding principles. Our research is relevant to businesses and governments, our graduates are work-ready and our academics put collaboration with industry at the heart of what they do.”
The ceremony was held at the headquarters of the British University in Saar and was attended by the Minister of Follow-up Affairs at the Royal Court, Shaikh Ahmed bin Ahmed Ateyatallah Al-Khalifa, the Education Minister and Higher Education Council (HEC) Chairman, Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, and HRH the Crown Prince's Court President, Shaikh Khalifa bin Daij Al-Khalifa, as well as a number of officials.
