Flybmi closes

Monday 18 February 2019

Dr Neil Robinson, travel and tourism expert for the University of Salford Business School, comments on the collapse of airline Flybmi.

Dr Robinson said: “It’s apparent that Flybmi went bust due to several reasons. Brexit uncertainty will have been a large part to play in the collapse of the British regional airline, with all flights based in either the UK or Europe, this will have been putting anxieties on the future of the company.

"This can often lead to a reduction in much-needed investment, at a time when Flybmi is already having to cover rising fuel and carbon costs. Amidst all of this, competitor regional airlines were offering a better selection of destinations as well as a more advanced service to customers, an expectation which Flybmi couldn’t afford to deliver. As expected, this led to many of their customers shopping elsewhere."
