Future of work

Thursday 1 February 2018

THE FUTURE of work and the workplace was discussed at a Business Breakfast hosted by Manchester Airport.

Professor David Spicer, Dean of the Salford University Business School, was part of the panel as they chatted about productivity, how technology will change the world of work and even the very buildings we work in, and what is important to the new generation of workers.

Businesses today face a real challenge to keep up with changing technologies, customer demands, even employee expectations. Constant change really is the new normal and the right workplace can play a massive part in helping businesses to thrive in this new environment.

Professor Spicer said: “Industry and business 4.0 is going to change a lot of things, the way we interact with each other and the workplace. Business models will change.

“For example with autonomous vehicles you could start your working day from the moment you set off in the morning. Great opportunities for global collaboration will be created by new technology.

“The generation just being born now are likely to see driving simply as a leisure pursuit, like horse riding is today.”

Professor Spicer was joined on the panel by Lynda Shillaw, CEO of MAG property, Rob Mukherjee Head of North West regional business at Vodafone, Tim Heatley, co-founder of Capital and Centric and Jon Lovell, Director of Hillbreak.
