GameLab 2018 to "break tech barrier"

Thursday 6 September 2018

‘DON’T just bring your business, bring your family’ is the message as Salford gears up for GameLab 2018.

Gaming, VR&AR, science and creative media fuse for a weekend in October (20-21) at the University of Salford’s Media City UK campus.

The event is a sandpit for ideas bringing developers and industry together with a showcase of new research, products and thought-provoking activities.

“The idea is that enthusiasts can meet researchers and create new things but also have a really fun weekend,”explains Professor Andy Miah who organised the first GameLab last year attracting more than 2,000 people.

“What we’d really like to see is the day job meeting the night job, such that people who work or study insci-tech use the space to engage with their kids.

“It’s not just that the youngsters often have the best ideas but that we need to pull down the barriers between generations about how we envisage the future.

“There’ll be plenty of entertainment for kids but also lots of opportunities for youngsters to have those techie conversations with adults that often don’t happen at home.”

Among this year’s highlights at GameLab is a science showcase exploring the microbial world inside you, called MICROBIhOME.

GameLab is part of Manchester Science Festival’s headline programme.
