Salford film makers sweep up awards

A number of promising young film makers from across the University of Salford have gained recognition for their work over the past month.
Ryan Ogden, 18, became one of three young people to be selected in the Into Film/BFI Film Academy’s ‘One to Watch’ list for 2018.
Ryan was presented his award at the Into Film Awards ceremony in London, with the Awards presented by actors Hermione Corfield and George MacKay.
Ryan’s One to Watch citation from Into Film said: “Ryan is a dedicated filmmaker who has taken all opportunities to improve his skills in screenwriting, directing, editing, camera operation and even production,constantly learning from the success and failures of his work."
He will also receive bespoke mentoring from film industry professionals from this year.
Ryan said: “Being recognised by industry professionals,meeting stars and getting interviewed by the press on the red carpet was a surreal and amazing experience.
“I’m incredibly honoured to be considered One to Watch for 2018 and the award has encouraged me to keep working hard and honing my abilities at Salford.”
Ryan’s film Boot will be shown at Sunderland Shorts Festival in May, you can watch it here:
Manchester International Film Festival
A team from the University, featuring Film Production students Josh Porter, Riagain Grainger, Seth Wilson, Nathanael Ianos and Broadcast Journalism student George Simister won the Manchester International Film Festival’s 48-hour film making challenge with their film Bet on it.
The film sees two friends having to try and raise £5,000, to get them out of a sticky situation after one of them lost a bet.
The team of five were up against other teams from across Manchester to create, shoot and edit the short film within 48 hours.

Royal Television Society
As part of a team from Northern Regional College in Northern Ireland, TV and Radio student, Laura O’Kane was highly commended for their film by the Royal Television Society, for the charity, Barnardo's.
The film, which looks at young carers was commended at the Northern Ireland Student Television Awards, for featuring and highlighting issues that affect young carers in Northern Ireland.
