Salford student gains place on prestigious leadership programme

Jennifer Harrison is a second year Child Nursing student who not only gets involved with extra study classes to help support her degree; she’s also the elected treasurer of the Nursing Society and holds her own portfolio sessions for new nursing cohorts.

On top of this, she has also been nominated for the UK Student Nurse of the Year award (Children) for outstanding achievements on her course. 

The Student Leaders Programme have noticed Jennifer’s impressive experience and have pledged to promote and develop her leadership skills with conferences and events, a coaching scheme led by industry professionals and granting her access to an online community where she can debate relevant topics with other student leaders. 

“My role in the Nursing Society at Salford Uni grants me a platform to reach lots of nursing students, so being chosen to represent the university on the Student Leaders Programme has been really exciting.” 

The programme began with a two-day conference in Reading on 6th and 7th March, where Jennifer was assigned a mentor for the programme who she can have regular meetings with. 

‘’Jennifer is an excellent example of the students in the School of Health and Society; who are able to go over and above of what is expected on a health program. I am extremely proud as the Dean of the School, that we have had students included on the Council of Deans ISO Future Leaders Program since its inception, a great acknowledgement on the quality of the students at the University of Salford.’’ 

Students on the programme are expected to contribute to social media and other online platforms to document their experience.
