TV award for 'blinged up This Morning'

Monday 29 April 2019

A QUAYS TV programme has won Best Light Entertainment at this year’s National Student Television awards in Nottingham.

Magazine entertainment show The Hour was praised by judges for rejuvenating a “potentially tired magazine format into the 21st Century” like “a blinged up This Morning.”

The accolade for the student-staff team on Quays was complemented by additional nominations for Best Title Sequence, Best Broadcaster and Best On-Screen Talent in which they placed second.

Creator and producer of The Hour Joe Wilmot received the award on behalf of the team at Saturday night’s awards, hosted at the University of Nottingham.

'Crazy big ideas'

Joe, a second year student on BA Journalism (Broadcast), said: “I am incredibly honoured to work with such a great bunch of people and when I come up with crazy big ideas, everyone (surprisingly) gets on board and we all make it work together, which is exactly what our show The Hour was.”

My aim was to create an “anything show” where anything goes and students from across the entire university have the opportunity to express themselves as for me, this is so important.

"I feel that that has come across and it fills me with great pride knowing that we are already being recognised on the national stage for our work.”

Collaboration

He added: “I strongly believe in cross-school collaboration and it excites me when thinking of the influence we can have when all working together

“I feel it gives us a little bit more oomph when trying to plan more potentially award-winning content.”

This year was the first time Quays TV entered content into the awards, and with one win and three shortlists, the crew are planning to push for an equally, if not more successful year in 2020.
