Student overcomes depression to win national award

Megan Fearon has been whittled down from over 250 candidates for the award, after “applying on a whim to see how far she could get”.  

The Politics and Contemporary History student has been through various stages to get this far, including online tests, phone interviews and meetings.

Her next step will be to attend the awards ceremony in Canary Wharf of April 26th, where she will find out if she has been awarded the Management Undergraduate of the Year.

She said:

“It feels amazing to be shortlisted, it really has given me a sense of pride and confidence for future graduate scheme applications and I have so much more confidence in what I can achieve.” 

Megan’s journey at The University of Salford hasn’t always been easy, after she was diagnosed with depression in her first year of studies and had to take some time away from her course to get back on her feet.  

She said: 

“I feel like I’ve done a complete U-turn from last year which makes this even more special. The University of Salford gave me the confidence to apply for this and I now know I am not alone during the challenges of university."
