Student recognised for business ethics work

A BUSINESS and Tourism student from the University of Salford has been awarded runner up, for her recommendations on business ethics and sustainability goals.
Monica Oregna, 23, was recognised for her work as she came runner up in the undergraduate category at the PRMEResponsible Business and Management Writing Competition, after impressing judges with her Business Ethics and Sustainability essay.
Monica, originally from Venice,looked at one of Indiegogo’s most successful start-ups, Flow Hive. The company has developed anew way of extracting honey, that is simpler compared to traditional methods – meaning extracting process is far less stressful for bees.
Unexpected
Monica said: “Being awarded runner up in the PRME competition came as a big surprise. I would have never expected to come in second place.
“At the same time, I also feel as though I put a lot of effort into my work, so it’s been really nice that my work has been recognised and I’m looking forward to attending the conference in June.”
Monica also said: “Sustainability and corporate social responsibility are extremely important in today’s world.
“These days, to be innovative, you have to be sustainable aswell. A lot of consumers, myself included, are more likely to buy a product if they can see that it is sustainable and that it has been produced ethically.”
This is the second time Business Ethics and Sustainability students from Salford Business School have been shortlisted. Undergraduate, Emma Gaskill secured second place in the competition’s 2016/17 undergraduate category.

“This year's second place winner Monica Oregna and other two undergraduate finalists (Cerys Hough and Gethin Roberts) have shown exceptional writing skills and enthusiastic engagement with the module.
“Teaching Business Ethics and Sustainability in Salford Business School provides our students with skills and knowledge that needed for the current business environment. Sustainability has become essential to all stakeholders.
“Therefore, we encourage our students to be proactive in the University and contribute to our community.”
