Top architect's brief for RHS Bridgewater

TOP architect Stephen Hodder has revealed he is working with students to create a visitor centre at “Europe’s largest gardening project”.
Stephen, interviewed at property summit MIPIM over the weekend, said the Royal Horticultural Society’s new national garden in Salford was hugely exciting and engaging students in the project was very much “in the spirit of the University’s new School of Architecture.”
The boss of Hodder + Partners is a visiting professor at the School.
The University of Salford and Salford City Council are key partners of the RHS in the new Bridgewater Garden in Worsley, Salford, which is set to become the 5th RHS National Garden.
“It’s advancing so quickly, with a huge amount of work going on,” explained Stephen, who has been chosen to design the new Welcome or Visitor Centre.
“I’m using the RHS project as a vehicle for 5thyear students at Salford to interrogate the brief and work with the Society as a real-life client," he explained.
The University is carrying out research, action research and evaluation of facets of the scheme spanning environmental science, archaeology, design, health and community studies.
“It’s such as an exciting project for Salford – the largest gardening project in Europe, and really important for wellbeing, sustainability and a host of things,” added Hodder.
