Centre for Digital Business project shortlisted for The Digitals

Tuesday 28 October 2014

A Salford Business School project offering free online training materials for small businesses looking to expand their exports has been shortlisted for The Digitals, one of the UK’s leading digital industry awards.

The ‘Passport to Trade 2.0’ project, led by Dr Aleksej Heinze – Co-Director of the School’s Centre for Digital Business team, working with partners across Europe, is shortlisted in the ‘charity and not for profit’ awards category, which celebrates the best in social media, mobile marketing, web optimisation and more.

The project developed a website which advises small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) on international business culture in 31 European countries, and provides free training materials to help European SMEs expand their businesses abroad and to advise students seeking international work and placements.

Passport to Trade 2.0 recently won a prestigious European Search Award in Reykjavik and has been recognised by the Big Chips in the Best Public Sector Project category and the UK Social Media awards shortlist for best use of research and best public sector project. In addition, earlier this month the Centre for Digital Business, led by Director Dr Marie Griffiths, won the Large Digital Team of the Year title at the Digital Entrepreneur Awards.

Alex Fenton, technical lead for the Passport to Trade 2.0 project, said: “Being a finalist at the Digitals gives further recognition and exposure to the great work the Centre is doing. Industry engagement and real world research are key to the Centre and the Business School’s objectives of being recognised locally and globally as experts in digital business.”

The Digitals winners - judged by industry representatives from organisations including Microsoft, the BBC, Kellogg’s and HSBC – will be announced at a ceremony taking place at the Tobacco Dock, London, on Wednesday 12 November alongside the Festival of Marketing.
