Scholarship to offer physiotherapists elite sport experience

Chartered Physiotherapists are being offered the unique opportunity to complete a fully-funded MSc in Sports Injury Rehabilitation whilst working at the highest level in British TaeKwonDo, thanks to a partnership between the University of Salford, Great Britain TaeKwonDo (GB TKD) and the English Institute of Sport (EIS).

Recipients of the postgraduate scholarship will study full-time with experts from the University of Salford’s School of Health Sciences and spend one day per week working on placement as part of the multi-disciplinary Science and Medical Team at GB TKD.

Working to support the delivery of physiotherapy services to athletes and coaches, the scholarship student will work side-by-side with the GB TKD team to develop a world class high performance environment.

The 12 month full-time MSc in Sports Injury Rehabilitation has been specially designed to develop students’ advanced theoretical knowledge and the practical and clinical reasoning skills required to pursue a career in professional sports injury rehabilitation. Covering a range of disciplines, including injury prevention, performance measurement and rehabilitation, the course equips students’ with the ability to critically evaluate and translate the scientific principles of elite performance into real-world situations.

John McMahon, Lecturer in Sports Biomechanics & Strength & Conditioning at the University of Salford, said: “This unique Scholarship offers physiotherapists looking to pursue a career in elite sports performance with a truly unique opportunity.

"Not only will the recipient of the scholarship have their full course fees paid for, they will work side-by-side with the world class Sports Science and Medicine Team at Great Britain TaeKwonDo and the English Institute of Sport.
