Salford PhD student shines at global research conference

Thursday 18 August 2016

A PhD researcher at the University of Salford has had the opportunity to present her research paper at an international research conference in Boston.

Sajedeh Mollasalehi, 24, attended the annual International Group for Lean Construction (IGLC) conference, where she presented a winning poster about lean construction to fellow researchers and academics.

Speaking about her achievement, she thanked the University for giving her the chance to present her research on a world stage.

She said: “I was encouraged to submit a research paper to the conference after my lecturer Andy Fleming persuaded me to write a paper on the subject that I based my dissertation for my Masters on.

It was the biggest conference that I have ever been at and I was really excited to be there. When I found out that my paper had won it was a great feeling. I actually found that some researchers, many of whom I had cited in my paper, were coming up to me after the event to learn more about my research. It was really encouraging and I am already looking forward to attending next year”.

Lean construction plays an important role in terms of improving the construction productivity and reducing waste in construction. Sajedeh's poster focused on the development of an experimental waste framework.

Sajedeh, who was partially funded by the University of Salford to attend the conference, was one of only a small number of researchers from a UK university to attend the conference.

Originally from Iran, Sajedeh came to the University of Salford in 2010 to study as an undergraduate in Bsc (Hons) Civil Engineering. She then studied for a Masters on the highly reputable MSc (hons) BIM and Integrated Design course, from which she graduated with a distinction.

IGLC is an international network of researchers from practice and academia in architecture, engineering and construction.
