Industry figures dominate University of Salford 2017 awards

THE UNIVERSITY OF SALFORD celebrates the strength of its industry relationships with its 2017 Honorary Awards.
The University is committed to developing Industry Collaboration Zones in health, digital,engineering, environment and sport, and Graduation 2017 reflects its ambition with awards to executives from Siemens, McLaren and Facebook.
The 2017 Honorands are:
Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren, and an alumnus of the University of Salford, honoured with a Doctorate in Science.
Nicola Mendelsohn, Vice President (Europe) of Facebook, receives an Honorary Doctorate in Arts.
Professor Juergen Maier, CEO of Siemens, awarded a Hon. Doctorate in Science.
Behrooz Barzegar, Vice President of Flight Physics, Integration, Policy and Development at Airbus and Salford alumnus, becomes a Hon. Doctor of Science.
Alice Webb, Director of BBC Children’s at MediaCityUK, Salford, is awarded Hon. Doctor of Arts degree.
Cat Lewis from Nine Lives Media (Panorama, Dispatches) becomes an Honorary Doctor of the Arts.
Marnie Millard, Head of Nichols PLC, the Manchester drinks firm responsible for Vimto and Levi Roots, honoured with a Doctorate in Business Administration.
David Cooke, founder of the charity Teams 4 U,which runs student volunteering in Africa, awarded a Hon. Doctorate of Letters.
Niki Birrell, Salford alumnus awarded a Doctorate in Science in recognition of his medals in Paralympic sailing at in three Games,most recently Rio.
Inspirational
Professor Helen Marshall, Vice Chancellor of the University of Salford, said: “We are thrilled to be honouring these inspirational individuals.
“As an industry-focused university, we are proud to associate with some of the leading professionals in their fields, who are our partners in creating the Salford Industry Collaboration Zones.”
The individuals will be honoured at the 2017 University of Salford Graduation Ceremonies at the Lowry, Salford Quays (July 18 – 21).
