Salford shortlisted for two THE awards

AN INNOVATIVE collaboration with a Chinese institution and the university's efforts to support its entrepreneurial students have both been recognised by being shortlisted for major honours.
The Times Higher Education (THE) has today announced the finalists for its awards, the Oscars for the higher education sector, and the University of Salford is shortlisted in two categories, Outstanding University Entrepreneurship and International Collaboration of the year.
The entrepreneurship listing is for the range of services the University offers to it students, including the Creative Entrepreneur event, and others events and support, as well as offering our graduates business support for life.
The collaboration listing involves a project where the University’s fashion students spent one day working with their counterparts at the Zhejing Fashion Institute of Technology (ZFIT) in China.
Tutors from both institutions placed students into groups, each comprising one or two students from Salford who acted as creative directors as they worked with Chinese design students.
The groups were presented with a single word and colour and were given just nine hours to design and create a collection of outfits which they had to present at their own fashion show.
Vice Chancellor at the University of Salford, Professor Helen Marshall, said: “This is a great achievement for us. To be shortlisted for two awards in the same year is great, especially as these are the most prestigious awards of the year.
“Entrepreneurship is a key part of our Industrial Collaboration strategy so it is very rewarding that that has been recognised here. The collaboration with China also opens doors and opportunities for our students to gain new experiences which can only help them when they embark on their careers.
“Good luck to both teams on the night.”
It is the 13th year the awards have been run and the final winners will be announced at a glitzy ceremony in Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London on November 30.
