Carer nets First Class degree

A SALFORD law student has achieved a first class degree despite losing her grandfather whom she cared for during her studies.
During her first year of university, Amy Jones was a part-time carer for her grandfather. She would visit him after university four days a week to cook his meals and do his shopping.
Towards the end of her first year in June her grandfather moved in with her and her mother and they both became fulltime carers.

Sadly, her grandfather passed away the following August. Amy explained that her grandfather was like a dad to her and this was a very emotional time for her.
Despite this, Amy managed to achieve good grades. She said: “I promised my grandad I would achieve a first in my degree although I knew it would be an uphill battle as I achieved a low 2:1 in my second year.
“I pushed myself extremely hard and worked for hours and hours in the library especially in my final semester.”
Amy graduated with a first class LLB (Hons) Law degree at a ceremony at the Lowry, Salford Quays, and hopes to begin the Bar Professional Training Course next year.
Amy added: “I found my time at Salford extremely positive and full of many different opportunities. The support the staff give is exceptional and they genuinely care about you as an individual.”
