First in Law for father of two

A FATHER who left school with just six GCSE’s at A-C graduates today with a first class degree in Law from the University of Salford.
Adam White, from Hattersley in Tameside, will now go on to study to become a barrister.
The 30 year old says he long regretted not going on to college and university after leaving school. He eventually got a job working for his local MP, was elected as a local Councillor in 2012, and even worked for Jeremy Corbyn during his campaign to become Labour Party leader. After several years working in politics he decided it was time to return to education in 2015.
Adam said: “My mum always reminds me how frustrated my teachers were with me when I was at school. My deputy head used to tell her I was capable but that I just didn’t seem interested, which was probably a fair assessment. Ironically, he once said that if that ever changed I’d either end up as a politician or a lawyer. Hopefully I’ll soon be able to say I’ve done both!”
Adam lives with his partner Sarah, herself a recent Salford graduate, and their two daughters, the youngest of which was born just a few weeks after his first year exams.
He added: “When Sarah told me we were expecting a baby I was really worried we wouldn’t be able to juggle everything. It’s been really hard work, with a lot of late nights once the kids were in bed, but it feels like it’s all paid off now and I couldn’t be happier.”
As well as his studies Adam was also part of the team which won the prestigious ESU-Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition in June, the first time a team from Salford have ever won the event. Mooting gives law students the opportunity to prepare and argue cases before a judge in a mock appeal hearing, and is regarded as essential experience for aspiring barristers. Adam and his teammate, second year student Emma Clarke, beat 72 teams to the top spot at the finals, which were held before former Supreme Court Justice Lord Saville in the Royal Courts of Justice in London.
Adam’s tutor, David Rossati, lecturer in Law at the University of Salford Business School said: “As Adam’s personal tutor, I witnessed his steady progress through the years in Salford and it has been an absolute pleasure to see him winning at the mooting competition in London.
“Adam has worked so hard for this. To have two children and gain a first in Law is a great achievement but combining that with all the work that goes into the Mooting as well makes it extra special. Congratulations to Adam and his family and I wish him luck in the future.”
