IoD Student Conference

Tuesday 26 February 2019

STUDENTS at the University of Salford will get a unique opportunity to make contacts and receive career advice, thanks to a linkup between the University and the Institute of Directors (IoD).

The university’s Business School is hosting the first ever IoD conference aimed specifically at students.  A panel of speakers will discuss a range of inspiring topics, including building your personal brand, starting up a business, making a difference and getting to the top.

Students from across the country will travel to the Lady Hale building on the University’s Peel Park Campus for the event on Wednesday, February 27.

Among the speakers on the day will be Phil Jones MBE, Managing Director of Brother UK, Sanndy Lindsay MBE, Founder and Chair of Tangerine PR and Matt Howarth, Co-Founder and Director at Reason Digital.

There will be three speakers from the IoD; Regional Director for the North West Claire Ebrey, Manchester Chair Sharon Amesu and Head of IoD Student Membership Joe Fitzsimons.

Claire Ebrey, Regional Director for IoD North West and Isle of Man said: “We are delighted to bring the first ever national IoD Student Membership conference to the North West. This is an exciting region for young people to consider starting up a business, securing their first jobs, and building a life. The amazing speakers we’re bringing today will tell stories of incredible success in the region, that we hope tomorrow’s leaders will take a lot from.”

Joe Fitzsimons, Head of IoD Student Membership, said “We are very excited to be working with the university to hold our first Annual IoD Student Membership Conference at Salford University and to be welcoming student members from across the UK to experience this unique event.”

The session will feature an opportunity to network with IoD Student Members from across the country, with inspiring talks on raising aspirations, setting up a business and an insight into how to make the most of an IoD Student Membership.

Professor Dave Spicer, Dean of the Business School at the University of Salford, said: “One of driving passions at Salford is to give our students real world experience and opportunities, rather than just a classroom-based education.

“This event is another way in which we are doing that. It will provide a vital chance for our students to network and get their feet on the career ladder, as well as get advice from experienced leaders and professionals.”
