Salford Graduate to have film shown on SKY

Naqqash Khalid has directed Stock, set in the warehouse district of Manchester. The film follows a French man who has recently moved to the area and finds himself involved with the British authorities, and stars French actors Idir Chender and Hania Amar alongside British actor Sarah-Jane Potts.

On the inspiration behind the themes of the film, Khalid said:

“I’m interested in tapping into the confusion of a changing world, I wanted to represent the anxiety and tension of the current political climate on screen.”

After graduating in English Literature in 2015, Naqqash decided to continue his journey at Salford University and now lectures part time in Media and Performance. 

Naqqash has always had an interest in film and media and has even won the Best Young Filmmaker award for his short film Parts.

 Post Brexit Fairytale

The film toys with language, miscommunication and European Anxiety and has been described as an “absurd, post-brexit fairytale”.  

Stock will premiere at the Barbican in London as part of Sky Arts 50 on 23rd February, before it is released on Sky Arts in Spring. However, Naqqash is already started working on his next project; 

“I’m in the process of working on my first feature film, which I’m hoping goes into production later this year. One of the challenges of working outside of tradition and outside of industry is financing your work. The British industry has become much more formal and feels more inaccessible in recent years. I’m grateful Sky gave me this opportunity and the creative freedom to make my film how I wanted.’
