£1bn Salford MediaCityUK plans 'fantastic for students'

Friday 9 September 2016

SALFORD graduates will be in pole position for top jobs at the expanded MediaCityUK, according to a leading industry expert.

The £1billion second phase of MediaCityUK won the green light this week, promising to make the city of Salford the largest hub of media and digital sector businesses in the country.

The University of Salford is the only University to have a campus at MediaCityUK, with a space designed to encourage creativity, innovation and collaboration between academics, students, professionals and industry.

And former TV producer at ITV Granada and BBC North Beth Hewitt believes the announcement is “fantastic news” for Salford students.

Opportunities

Beth, who is Senior Lecturer in Media Practice at University of Salford and Director of Salford International Media Festival said: “The huge expansion of MediaCityUK means students studying Journalism, Broadcasting, Animation, Games Design and Production courses at the campus, will have access to even greater opportunities right on their doorstep.

“While we already have close links and collaborations with the BBC, ITV, Daily Telegraph and independent production companies based at MediaCityUK and across Greater Manchester, this impressive phase 2 project will enable us to strength our partnerships, providing students with unique work-based experiences and graduates with many more job opportunities within the media and creative industries.”
