Conference boss Paul Bolton nominated for two business awards

Monday 27 February 2017

PAUL Bolton, Deputy Chief Executive of Salford Professional Development (SPD), has been nominated for two prestigious regional business awards.

Paul is in the running for “Young Director of the Year” and “Public Sector / Third Sector Director of the Year” at the Institute of Directors North West awards on March 30th.

The awards recognise “directors at the forefront of leadership excellence”.

Established in 2012, SPD is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the University of Salford which delivers conferences, courses and bespoke training in the UK and internationally.

Academics at the university provide the training at a wide range of events which focus on health and social care, media, business and law, the built environment, education and public services. All profits are then gift-aided back to the university to fund teaching and research.

Profits

The company recorded £752,000 of profit in 2016 and now has a strategic five year plan in place to expand its portfolio of events and reach £3 million profit by 2021.

Paul has worked with SPD since 2012 and also serves in a voluntary capacity as Non-Executive Director of the mid-Yorkshire branch of Relate, the relationship support charity.

Paul said:“I am delighted to be nominated for these two awards which reflect the incredible hard work that everyone at SPD does to provide sector-leading conference and training.

“It’s a privilege to lead such a dedicated team who do all they can to make SPD successful. These nominations are a well deserved recognition of their achievements. The nomination of these awards means SPD will be seen by many businesses in the north west and as a result will allow us to connect more with industry. Taking a closer step to meeting our objectives for the ICZ agenda, which we are supporting the University to achieve.

Growth

“SPD has grown year on year since we started and we look forward to working with the university to build on that success in the future.”

He added: “Relate is one of many excellent charities out there which do incredible work but require support to deal with the challenges of running a charity in the current climate. I saw this as an opportunity to give something back and I find the work very rewarding.”
