Salford academic to brief UN

Monday 13 March 2017

An academic from the University of Salford is to travel out to Germany this week to brief a UN trust fund on legal issues around climate finance.

David Rossati, lecturer in law in the Business School, will travel out to Bonn to address a dinner of climate change experts.

He will be advising them on a technical legal matter arising from the Paris agreement last year, which resulted in a particular fund, the £350m Adaptation Fund, being left out from serving the agreement.

The Adaptation Fund provides a vital service to developing countries, by giving them access to cash to help them build resilience and adapt to climate change. It has previously helped countries and communities throughout Africa, South and Central America and Asia, in areas such as coastal management, disaster risk reduction and sustainable farming.

David, an expert in policy and law around climate change said: “It is a real honour to have been invited to do this. I wrote a legal briefing last year on a technical matter involving the Adaptation Fund.”

“It will become a big issue if developing countries won’t be able to benefit from this fund to help them cope with climate change, so hopefully the work that I do with NGOs and the Adaptation Fund members will help ensure that its work can continue.”
