Architecture and Built Environment ranked 36th in world

INNOVATIVE teaching and impressive employment rates have catapulted Architecture and the Built Environment at Salford into the world’s Top 40.
The University of Salford is now ranked 36th globally for its courses which include construction, surveying, property and architecture.
The latest QS World University Rankings also place Civil and Structural Engineering in the global top 200.
2017 is the third year running that Architecture and the Built Environment at Salford has featured in the QS’s top 50 universities in the world and this year it has climbed an impressive ten places.
Employer surveys
The rankings, which highlight the world’s top universities in 42 individual subjects, are based on the QS Academic and Employer reputation survey outcomes and from data of research citations. To compile the rankings, QS evaluated 4,226 universities, analysed 113 million plus citations and verified the provision of over 15,530 programs.
Additionally, the QS global rankings highlight a national ranking equivalent for each subject, of which Architecture and the Built Environment was ranked 5th in the UK, while civil and structural engineering was ranked 22nd.
Speaking on latest rankings, Dean for the School of the Built Environment Professor Hisham Elkadi said: “It’s fantastic to see that the University has once again been recognised as one of the world’s top 50 Universities for Architecture and the Built Environment, as a result of our world-leading research, innovative teaching and impressive employment rate of our graduates.
“The University is making excellent progress in all aspects of its respective research portfolio, including external competitive research grants.
“Additionally, with plans for major projects including an ‘Energy House 2’ and an expansion of our Think Lab, our QS ranking showcases to prospective students why Salford is such an excellent choice to study Architecture and the Built Environment,
Industry collaborations
Dean for the School of Computing, Science & Engineering, Professor Sunil Vadera added: “We are so proud that the University’s work in Civil and Structural Engineering has once again been recognised in this way.”
“The University’s School of Computing, Science & Engineering is in a very healthy position with research collaborations including partners such as Dyson, and Boeing and our new one-year programmes in MSc in Data Science and MSc in Cyber Security and Forensics, which both began last September. We are also working with Siemens in the UK to provide Degree Apprenticeships to their workforce.
“The multi-million pound Engineering Showcase development, due to open in 2018, will include the Morson Maker Space; a place where industry, researchers and students will collaborate to create and realise designs and ideas from live industry projects. The development underpins the University’s commitment to its Engineering & Environments ICZ.”
University of Salford Vice-Chancellor Professor Helen Marshall said: “I am delighted that the exceptional work has been recognised in this international league table. It’s no surprise to me that both have been listed so highly and I would like to thank all teaching and support colleagues that have contributed to this success.”
