Salford named among top younger universities

Friday 7 April 2017

THE UNIVERSITY of Salford has been named one of the top 200 young universities in the world by Times Higher Education.

The prestigious rankings place us in the 151-200 – a major achievement given the rise of new universities in Asia.

The Times Higher Young University Rankings only include universities aged 50 years and under and grade institutions on key performance indicator grouped into five areas:

The rankings graded Salford particularly highly on its ‘international outlook’ which is based on international-to-domestic student ratio, international-to-domestic staff ratio and international collaboration. Cited as a key performance indicator, Times Higher Education says “The ability of a university to attract undergraduates, postgraduates and faculty from all over the planet is key to its success on the world stage.”

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Stephenson said: “As we celebrate our 50th anniversary this year, it’s a real honour to again hear the University of Salford has been ranked among the best young universities in the world.

"As an institution we strive to not only attract international students but also to collaborate with overseas partners so it’s great to see this being recognised. To consolidate our place alongside the best new universities around the globe, is a real testament to our teaching excellence and the fantastic experience we provide for our students.”

To compile the rankings, THE evaluated hundreds of universities worldwide, of which 27 of the UK’s higher education institutions made the top 200.

As we are celebrating our 50th anniversary this year, this was our last opportunity to be listed in the young university rankings so it’s great to see us making a final appearance in the tables.
