Our MediaCityUK campus hosted the Salford Strategic Flood Forum on Wednesday 10 September 2014, as part of the International Conference on Building Resilience organised by the Centre for Disaster Resilience of the School of the Built Environment.
The meeting provided axcellent networking opportunity for academics and the practitioners in the field of disaster management and provided a forum for discussions around building resilience to flood risk at a regional level.
The Salford Strategic Flood Forum meets quarterly to help implement recommendations arising from the Pitt Review into the 2007 floods. The fourm brings together partners including Salford City Council, the Environment Agency, United Utilities, community trusts and representatives from the University.
The aim of the forum is to ensure that at a regional level the city of Salford is prepared to deal with flood events. It plays an important role in coordinating and preparing the city council to deal with new responsibilities emerging from the Flood and Water Management Act 2010.
Chair of the Flood Forum, Cllr Derek Antrobus, said “In recent years the Strategic Flood Forum has brought together key partners to enable Salford to meet the challenges we face in managing flood risks in the City. We welcomed the opportunity to make our September meeting a part of the International Conference to promote Resilient Cities and we were very proud to be a part of this successful event."

The University of Salford’s Energy House has been involved in the launch of a campaign driven by Smart Energy GB and the Energy Saving Trust promoting national energy efficiency initiatives.
