New Head of the School of the Built Environment

Professor Hisham Elkadi joins the University today as the new Head of the School of the Built Environment (SoBE).
Hisham was formerly Chair and Head of the School of Architecture at Deakin University, Australia, a role he filled for five years
Former positions include Head of the School of Architecture and Design at the University of Ulster, Programme Director for Architecture and Director of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Newcastle, Senior Lecturer at the University of Plymouth, Associate Professor at the University of Alexandria and Research Associate at the University of Liverpool. He graduated with a PhD from the University of Liverpool in 1989.
Professor Elkadi has an international research reputation and extensive academic publications to his name. He holds a range of honorary positions, including Fellowships at University College London, the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the Australia Institute of Building. He serves as an external examiner for the universities of Harvard and Toronto.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Martin Hall said: "Hisham joins us at a point of particular opportunity for SoBE, and for our University. Following a strong submission to the current Research Excellence Framework, it is now our priority to build and focus our future research and engagement in the built environment and allied areas. And, as Britain’s economic recovery begins to gain momentum, there will be new opportunities for compelling, new, academic programmes."

Professor Elkadi has already spent a week at the University in June, where he met with new colleagues.
